Cataphract

Prerequisites: Mounted Combat, Armor Proficency (Sheilds).
XP Cost: 300

The cataphracti are considered the most powerful fighting force on Galadran. Heavilly armored and mobile, the invention of the cataphract's specially modified saddles allowed for devatating charges at impressive speeds. Cataphracti serve as either the elite cavalry or assault force for most empires and nations that field them, primarily used for impetuous charges to break through infantry formations.

Starting Ability

You gain the service of an unusually intelligent, strong, and loyal steed to serve you. This mount is usually a heavy warhorse. For each of its saving throws, the mount uses its own base save bonus or yours, whichever is higher. The mount applies its own ability modifiers to saves, and it doesn’t share any other bonuses on saves that you might have. In addition, when subjected to an attack that normally allows a Reflex saving throw for half damage, a mount takes no damage if it makes a successful saving throw and half damage if the saving throw fails. Should your mount die, you must wait a week before attaining a new one.

Abilities

Banner
XP Cost:1,080
As long as your banner is clearly visible, all allies within 60 feet receive a +2 morale bonus on attack rolls made as part of a charge.

Constant Charge
XP Cost:2,700
If the damage from your mounted charge attack drops your opponent, you may make an additional attack at a second opponent in your line of motion provided you have movement left to reach him.

Grand Charge
XP Cost: 810
You receive a +4 bonus on melee attack rolls on a charge while mounted (instead of the normal +2). In addition, you do not suffer any penalty to your Defense after making a charge attack while mounted.

Mighty Charge
XP Cost:2,970
You may double the threat range of any weapons wielded during a charge while mounted. This increase does not stack with other effects that increase the threat range of the weapon. In addition, you may make a free bull rush, disarm, sunder, or trip combat maneuver if your charge attack is successful. This free combat maneuver does not provoke an attack of opportunity.

Mounted Mastery
XP Cost:** 2,160
You ignore the armor check penalty when using the Ride skill, regardless of whether or not the creature you are riding is your mount. Whenever you make a charge attack while mounted, you receive a +4 dodge bonus to your Defense to avoid attacks set against your charge. When making such an attack, you may add your mount’s Strength modifier to the damage roll, in addition to your own.

Mounted Overrun
XP Cost: 500
When using the Overrun combat maneuver while mounted, your mount can overrun any number of opponents in your movement path so long as it moves in a straight path. In addition the mount move twice its current movement rate while Overrunning by making the Overrun combat maneuver a full round action instead of a standard action. If the mount fails a Strength check at any point, the maneuver ends as normal.
