The magic-user is a versatile class that can be used to represent a number of archetypes, including both civilized and primitive sorcerers and priests, martial artists and sages. Magic-users on Galadran must quest for knowledge, for there are few formal academies or other teaching processes from which to learn. Those who attach themselves to one or another religion as priests or shamans commonly find themselves expected to work not just at translating old manuscripts or preaching to the faithful but to undergo hazardous pilgrimages to carry out strange rituals in faraway shrines, to get involved in the power-politics of the royal court and to war against rival religions either actively or by intrigue. Wandering independents are almost by definition adventurers, while those who have given their mind, body and soul in thrall to some superior, whether earthly or demonic, are at their master’s beck and call whenever he needs an obscure material component or a sorcery-sapping compound delivered to a rival’s accommodation in secret.

Sorcerer: A Magic-User has Base Magic Points (MP) equal to 4 + Wisdom Modifier, to a minimum of one point. Magic Points are used when casting spells and creating magical objects. They can be regained by rest or through the use of various herbal concoctions and various other means, most commonly by sacrificing one or more humans or animals. For most characters, their Magic Points can rise to a maximum of double their Base Magic Points. If for some reason a character already has Magic Points when he becomes a Magic-User, he does not gain additional Base Magic Points as above. Instead, he receives a one-time bonus of +2 MP to his already acquired Base Magic Points.

This ability also allows the Magic-User to purchace spells from the spell list.

Assistance (Su): The Magic-User's broad range of talents and insights into dozens of areas of knowledge grant him the ability to lend his knowledge to others. The magic-User may use the Aid Another ability at range, allowing his to grant the effects without being near his allies. At 1st level, the Magic-User may use the Aid Another ability on any ally within 10ft. This range increases to 15ft. at 4th level, 20ft. at 7th level, and 30ft. at 10th level.

Arcane Aura (Su): Magic-Users are feared by most people on Galadran. Before any creature can attack a Magic-User of at least 2nd level, he must make a Will saving throw (DC 10+ the Magic-User’s Magic Attack Bonus + The magic User’s Charisma modifier). If they fail the throw, they may not attack the Magic-User for the remainder of the encounter unless the Magic-User performs some hostile action (such as attacking or casting spells) against them or their allies. The effects of this ability last for a number of hours equal to the Magic-User’s class level.

Research: At 3rd Level, given time and access to a library or other source of information, a Magic-User can answer questions even if they go beyond his areas of expertise. The Magic-User can make a familiar Knowledge check on any subject as long as he is able to research it for at least one hour. In addition, the Magic-User gains a +2 bonus on his roll for every hour of Research, up to a maximum bonus equal to double his Intelligence Modifier. The first hour of Research does not grant a bonus if the Magic-User has no Ranks in a related Knowledge Skill.

+1 Magic Point (Su): At 2nd level and every four levels thereafter, the magic-user’s Base Magic Points increase by +1.

Ascendant Knowledge (Ex): Starting at 5th Level, the Magic-User gains a bonus on Int, Wis, and Cha Skills equal to the Skills’ Ranks, up to the maximum bonus indicated on the Table. The bonus gained by this ability may never exceed your total ranks you have in the skill.

For example, a 5th Level Magic-User has a +1 bonus. For any Int Skill that he has at least 1 Rank in, he gains a bonus equal to the the number of ranks in the skill, up to the maximum (or a +1). If the Magic-User reaches Level 10, his bonuses go up to +6. Any Int, Wis, or Cha Skill that he has at least 1 Rank in, he gains a bonus equal to the number of ranks in the skill, up to the maximum (or a +6). For example, if he had 4 ranks in Knowledge: Alchemy, he would gain a +4 bonus to the skill, but if he had 8 ranks, the bonus would only be a +6.

Maximum MP Increase (Su): At 6th level, the Magic-User’s Magic Points can rise to a maximum of triple their Base Magic Points. At 10th level, this maximum increases to quadruple their Base Magic Points.
