Key Ability: Intelligence

Rank 1 Ability

You may use a shield and ignore the armor check penalties associated with it.

Rank 3 Ability

When attempting to parry with a shield, you gain +1 to your contested roll for every 3 ranks in this skill.

Rank 4 Ability

If you successfully hit your opponent with your shield at the end of a charge, you may make a Trip attack immediately without provoking an Attack of Opportunity. If it fails to hit by more than 3 points, your opponent may make a trip attempt against you as an immediate action.

Rank 5 Ability

If you successfully hit your opponent with your shield, he must make a Fortitude save (DC 10+ your Strength modifier) or become dazed for 1 round.

Rank 6 Ability

Whenever directly adjacent to an ally with a medium, large, or tower shield, you gain a +2 circumstance bonus to your Defense and a +1 circumstance bonus to Reflex saving throws for each such ally, up to a total of +4 to Defense and +2 to Reflex saving throws when flanked by other shield-bearers.

Rank 7 Ability

If exposed to any effect that normally allows a Reflex saving throw for half damage, you take no damage with a successful saving throw, but your shield suffers the full damage instead. If you fail your saving throw, both you and your shield take the full impact of the blast. On any other roll, the shield escapes unharmed.
