The Law Of The Master

Any character with the Acolyte background, joins a cult, learns the Demonic Pact spell, or who takes on apprentices of his own, is subject to the Law of the Master.

The Law of the Master concerns any character who has learned sorcery from a more powerful sorcerer or demon, who is known as the master. His apprentices, coven novices, or other students are known as thralls.

The master of any coven, sorcerous society or any number of individual thralls, always gains a +2 circumstance bonus to Bluff and Intimidation skill checks targeting any of his thralls and a +2 circumstance bonus to magic attack rolls against them.

When casting a ritual, the master's thralls may make Aid Another checks. If they are successful, they may add +1d6 to the master's spellcasting check.

The master may as a swift action, deal subdual damage to any of his thralls, leeching MP from their blood. The master may roll any number of d4s (the maximum amount may not exceed the master's magic attack bonus). He may deal the damage to a number of thralls equal to or less than his Intelligence bonus. For every 2 points of damage he deals in this way, he gains an additional MP added to his mana pool. If desired, the thrall may attempt to resist this by making a Will saving throw, with the DC set by the master’s magic attack roll. The thralls must be within 30ft. of the caster, or connected by a magical link for this law to take effect. Most masters will ensure they gain a link to the thrall before teaching them a single spell – perhaps a contract signed in blood, or a lock of hair.
